From the glacier to the sea

Into The Wild

From the glacier to the sea and directly past the National Park Lodge: the multi-award-winning long-distance hiking trail Alpe-Adria-Trail promises us a superlative hiking experience. The varied starting stage, from the edge of the Pasterzen glacier down to Heiligenblut, offers more than just a foretaste of this extraordinary long-distance hiking route!

The Alpe Adria Trail has received three awards in recent years from the world's largest travel magazine, National Geographic Traveler. And the team at the National Park Lodge is proud that this great long-distance hiking route starts here in the National Park. With "Into the Wild" we immerse ourselves in this grandiose long-distance hiking adventure: on the varied starting stage, which leads from the rugged, glaciated high mountains down into the lush green mountainous cultural landscape around Heiligenblut.

"Into The Wild" experience can start

The three pillars of the Alpe-Adria-Trail starting point stand prominently in the clear high mountain sky directly opposite the Großglockner. This is exactly where our “Into the Wild” adventure tour starts, with which we will dive into the incomparable hiking adventure on the Alpe-Adria-Trail for a day. The first thing is a steep descent to the edge of the Pasterzen Glacier, where an arctic landscape with turquoise-blue glacial lakes, on which small icebergs float, awaits us. Later we cross a suspension bridge, under which the young Möll river crashes into an impressive rock gorge. We are now leaving this archaic high mountain landscape step by step and entering a lush green alpine country. The path past the magical Ladder waterfall is steep before the Briccius chapel invites you to a contemplative rest, because here is where Briccius died, who brought the blood of Christ to Heiligenblut. We have now honestly earned a hearty stop at the cozy Briccius Alpine dairy before the idyllic Haritzersteig is the last, particularly delightful part of the way and then we suddenly and suddenly arrive at the National Park Lodge in the middle of Heiligenblut. Now we are certain: The Alpe-Adria-Trail has earned its awards and maybe we will return one day and then go the remaining 37 stages!
